April 21st, 1965. Mekong Delta.
We were on recon in the northeast quadrant holed up in another nameless village on the edge of the jungle.
Charlie was seven clicks down river dug in and ready for us, waiting for us to make our move.
0400 hours the radio crackled to life.
Static spilled across the courtyard, echoing across the mudflats and down the riverbank.
The operator gave us his sign-on to HQ in Saigon.
They replied with one short-burst transmission.
It said:
"Terminate. With Extreme Prejudice".
